Fantastic Friday #608 - Mercy

Mercy

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3-4

Who have you given mercy to this week? An act of kindness, compassion or favor to anyone? Think hard and see if this mercy you practiced was for someone you love dearly or someone you just love because Christ asked you to. It is sometimes hard for most of us to show mercy to someone we know intimately, but it is more difficult to show mercy to those you don't really know. God knows us intimately and knows our hearts, and yet He still shows us mercy on a daily basis. If God can show you mercy when he knows us so well, don't you think it should be easier to show someone mercy when you don't know them? Show mercy and see what happens.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #607 - Enter

Enter

Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’”

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. Hebrews 4:1-3

I entered several locations this week, and not once was I denied entry. These were places of business, work and home. These places were welcoming for me to enter, but do you have those places where you are not allowed to enter without a special membership? Maybe you have to pay a fee to enter one of those stores, or you have to pay a huge amount to enter a club and participate in all that it has to offer. Have you ever sat down to think of what it takes to enter God's rest with Him? Certainly there are things you have to leave behind to gain this rest, but a lot of times we don't pay attention to this but only focus on the things that gratify us now. If we thought more about what we should pay attention to that would gain us entry, our lives might be more fulfilling here on this earth. Don't lose sight of that entry.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #606 - Hard

Hard

7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power,love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

What do you find to be hard? Is it schoolwork, your job, managing your finances, or even that home improvement project you are working on. What makes these things so hard is actually you. You have the ability to control how these difficult circumstances impact you. You have the opportunity to let it beat you up or you have the opportunity to let God guide you through these times. I read something this week that basically said "God did not give us the Spirit of Fear." Once we focus more on the areas that God has stated "fear not" then those times would be easier because we are living by faith and not by fear. Keep working through the hard things by utilizing the Spirit of God and not the spirit of fear.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #605 - Best

Best

7 So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them: 8 “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; 9 and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place. Luke 14:7-9

How many of us look for the best seat at the movie theatre, sporting event, or even church. In some cases there are better seats than others at these events, but if you take a step back and think about it, how good is that seat. Does it give you the full picture, or does it place you in a position where everyone else can see you. A lot of us should take the example of humbling ourselves and taking a seat that is not the most prominent. I bet if you take a less prominent seat, that you will actually have the best seat because you can see everything and not be the focus of everything. Step back because none of us deserve the best seat.

This is the rest of the scripture if you were interested.

10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:10-11

Fantastic Friday #604 - Whisper

Whisper

12 “A word was secretly brought to me,
my ears caught a whisper of it.
13 Amid disquieting dreams in the night,
when deep sleep falls on people, Job 4:12-13

Do you sometimes sit still and listen to the wind? What do you hear when you listen carefully? Is it the ripple of the trees, the flapping of a flag, the washing on shore of the water? When we listen a lot of times you can almost hear nature whispering to you. Telling you things you haven't heard before. Listening to the Holy Spirit can be that same way. The voice is sometimes too soft to hear because we allow the enemy to creep in and cover the whispers with loud noises. We can combat the loud noises in our life if we take the time to listen to what the Spirit says, and often the Spirit will prompt us prior to the whisper but we just aren't in a place to listen. Place yourself in a position to hear the whisper.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #603 - Act

Act

21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. James 2:21-23

When we act on something, we typically put a great deal of thought into it. We usually plan, think through the different scenarios and go with the best plan that is going to get us where we need to be.  When we react to something, there is usually not a great deal of thought put into it.  Abraham acted on what his Father told him to do, and his faith was made complete as the scripture reads.  If we were to take a lesson and Act instead of React, our life might take a different path, one that is rewarding and loving and ends up being faith-filled.  Focus on the Act in our life and not the Re.

Fantastic Friday #602 - Voice

Voice

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:27-28

Do you find yourself ever stopping to listen to the voices in the room? Some have inflections that are strong and others have a different cadence. Not one person speaks the same way and sometimes we cannot discern what is being said because there are too many voices. It is important for us in our daily life to listen to the one true voice to guide us, because his voice is strong, firm, loving and caring. With these attributes, it should drown out all other voices in our life that we shouldn't be listening to and focus in on Him. Take a moment to listen to His voice and hear what you know is true.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #601 - Lamp

Good Morning,

Lamp

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. Matthew 6:22

How bright is a lamp if you have one beside your bed? My guess is that it is pretty dim compared to an overhead light or the sun coming in through the curtains. Unless of course if you have the three-way bulb in your light, then you have three different levels of light. What are you looking at with your eyes on a daily basis? Are the things you see from your view appropriate? When we spend our time looking at things that might be lacking then our eyes could dim like the lowest level on the three-way bulb. We need to keep our eyes healthy so our body can be full and we can have a positive impact on those around us. Darkness is the losing side and the light can overtake the darkness.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #600 - Wisdom

Good Morning,

Wisdom

17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Ephesians 1:17-23

Do you ever sit down and think of the wisdom you have? You know, taking and applying the things you have learned in your everyday walk. Wisdom is good if we use it correctly but if we neglect it then the enemy can come in and snatch you away from where God wants you to be. When we take the wisdom we have and use it, as the scripture states, it gets us to know Him better. When we know Him better our relationship is stronger with Him and we can see how relying on Him for strength can get us through anything. God is powerful and so is the wisdom He provides and if God can raise Christ from the dead, think of what He can do in your life if you focus on the wisdom He gives you freely. Wisdom, the gateway to understanding truth.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #599 - Disheartened

Disheartened,

13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. 1 Thessalonians 5:13-15

Have you found yourself disheartened or disappointed this week? I have seen multiple situations where someone has been hurt or hurting for someone else this week in particular. What causes this feeling of being disappointed can be typically associated with higher expectations than what we should have in regard to others. It can also be related to the enemy trying to disrupt all that is good, and there are times when our patience might be tested because of what the enemy tries to put in our head. As this scripture says, there are those of us who should encourage and not discourage individuals and their efforts. Striving to do what is good, always will outweigh the bad. We should not be disheartened ourselves, and when we find ourselves heading down that path, we should remember that God can brighten this darkness and can turn that into delight.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #598 - Refuge

Refuge

11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may rejoice in you.

12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

Psalm 5:11-12

This week I got an email from a former employee who sent me something she received from her new campus, she works in Hawaii. The email discussed what to do if for some reason North Korea were to send a ballistic missile to Hawaii. The email talked about sheltering in place in a situation like this and gave them directions for different safe places on campus. What do you do when the sin of the world is right outside your door and creeping up on you? Do you go outside and chase it down like the enemy wants you to away from your safe zone, or do you shelter and take refuge in the Lord? It's ironic how this verse describes the protection with a shield, when we tend to drop our defenses to the enemy. If we think of the Lord as a Shield that can protect us wholly from everything, why aren't we taking regular refuge in Him? Take that righteous path, invite the Lord to protect you and let Him bless you.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #597 - Gains

Gains

35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? Mark 8:35-37

Did you have some gains this week? You know, like when you lift weights and get gains. This was a term that I was not too familiar with in this form until my kids introduced it to me. The only gain I knew was the powdered detergent from back in the day. But this new way to use this word made me think of how it has been used in the past. The stock market gained some points today, we gained a new addition to the group who really knows what they are doing, or we have gained momentum with our money making venture. All of these gains have one thing in common, they are individually focused gains to get ahead in this world. When we make gains personally or professionally, is our first thought to thank God or to show how much better off we are with these gains. Maybe that is why God wants us to focus on giving up these gains to follow Him. We don't gain anything by chasing things of this world, because we can't say I have the most gains, I win. We all have gains in our life, the question is are we going to focus on gaining more for our benefit or gaining less and receiving God's blessing.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #596 - Follow

Follow

26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. John 10:26-28

What do you find yourself following? Do you follow a famous person on twitter, or do you follow your friends on some other social media? Do you follow the news and talk show people who say anything just to cause a controversy? It is hard these days when there are so many people out there who want others to think and be like them. What do we do when this happens? Maybe we turn back to the guidance we received so long ago and follow the One who is most famous and who has saved us from our sin. It is very simple, we need to listen to the right voice and not the ones that carry us down a different path. Let Him carry you. Come follow me.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #595 - Steps

Steps

8 Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?”

9 Isaiah answered, “This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?”

10 “It is a simple matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah. “Rather, have it go back ten steps.”

11 Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz. 2 Kings 20:8-11

Do you ever wonder why we tend to look back all the time when so many things are in front of us? We tend to walk through life and while it is easier to move forward, there are many times when we move backwards. Maybe it is a particular sin or shortcoming that we have that we keep revisiting, or maybe it is dwelling on something in the past that has long since been dealt with. Our steps are always challenged by the enemy trying to get us to move backwards because that typically takes our focus off what's ahead. It is so much better for us to move forward and to leave the enemy behind. Keep your steps moving forward and protect against thinking it is easier to move backwards, because if you are like me, you will trip moving backwards.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #594 - Destruction

Good Morning,

Destruction

1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
Why do you boast all day long,
you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
2 You who practice deceit,
your tongue plots destruction;
it is like a sharpened razor.
3 You love evil rather than good,
falsehood rather than speaking the truth. Psalm 52:1-3

I am currently reading a book about a former war and there are many gut-wrenching parts of this novel. The clarity in which the soldier describes the destruction and death around him paints a picture so clear, sometimes I feel like I am right in the middle of it myself. The other more personal pictures of who started the war and why they started the war are just as moving. I assume that this war just like any other starts with a misunderstanding and also lies a deep hatred for someone or some thing. The enemy has so much influence on people these days, if only the people at war stood back and looked at each other for the people they are they might see past that evil and acknowledge them as a human being. The problem is evil is strong and makes people think they can be a hero for their cause and they don't think of anything else. With war comes destruction, not just of land but of people and their beliefs. Can you imagine if we looked at building up rather than destroying people, how much better off our society would be. Before you think that I am truly talking about a war between countries, think about the battles you fight daily where you are tempted to tear down someone else or their beliefs even when they don't agree with yours. Maybe we should work to build people up and focus on good rather than evil through the truth we all know. Don't let the enemy tell you it is OK to be destructive, because in that world nobody wins.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #593 - Troubles

Troubles

28 Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brings them out of their distresses.
29 He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.
30 Then they are glad because they are quiet;
So He guides them to their desired haven. Psalm 107:28-30

Troubles are all around us. Troubles are presented to us in many forms. I have seen many troubles this week that other people have. One thing I have tried to focus on instead of the why is how are these people going to get over their troubles. Many of them don't have a close relationship with the Lord. It makes me begin to wonder, is my relationship close enough to the Lord that if I had the same troubles as them, would I be able to respond with a deep abiding faith in the Lord to get me through? We tend to forget that God is always there for us, even in our deepest darkest moments. All we need to do is step forward and lean into Him who gives us a calm spirit. Knowing that He can calm all the storms in our life and make them quiet gives me the strength and faith I need to get through. You know, those people with troubles can be prayed for, even if they don't have a relationship with the Lord. He wants all to come to Him.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #592 - Mature

Mature

4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:4

While this scripture is only a piece of a larger passage, there is so much truth in this one verse that it cannot be ignored alone. This week I got up in front of my colleagues with a green pompom in hand and jumped around a stage screaming Team Green. For those of you who know me, you might find this a little odd, and maybe sound a bit immature considering my age. But, let's break this down for you. I am a team captain within our division of student affairs in a friendly competition, and I was trying to motivate the team. I figured if someone in my position could jump around a stage with a pompom in hand and look silly for a moment, I could show a side of me most people don't see. Like our Christian walk, there are many parts of us that are immature and we are not fully grown. When we show our immaturity, it shows others that we are like them and not fully mature. To show others our immaturity helps those people grow, because we can be less intimidating in our beliefs and how we present ourselves. Being mature comes from a long-term relationship with our Father in Heaven, and not just occasional visits with Him. A regular bit of hard work, study and relationship can mature you where you need to be. One thing I should note is that you should not let your immaturity rule your life, but let God take you and mold you into the mature individual. Be immature to teach, but don't live in this area.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #591 - Sight

Sight

6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 For we live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8

With this week's tragedies, it is often easy for us to lose sight of God's overall goal for us. The sights we have seen give us anguish and cause us to wonder, what's next. God asks us to love others and love Him, and we have seen plenty of people loving others. We have also seen the hatred in people's hearts by taking advantage of the less fortunate. We need to remember that our sight of the future relies on that faith in our Heavenly Father, that whatever tragedy comes our way, there is hope on the other side. We can get so bogged down in our negative circumstances that we tend to let those overtake our faith and diminish it. Don't lose sight of what God has for you and stay on the path of righteousness that leads to our real home with the Lord.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #590 - Presence

Presence

12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones. 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13

Do you think very much about what it will be like to be in the presence of our Father in Heaven? I found out this week that an old friend passed away after her battle with cancer, and it struck a chord. There are a lot of songs, books and writings out there that ask this question what it will be like. In fact one of my most favorite songs "I Can Only Imagine" is one that explores the unknown of what it will be like to be in the presence of Him and what we will do when we see Him. This song leaves a lot of questions unanswered because we don't know exactly what it will be like. In a way we can know what it will be like because God paints perfect pictures in His Word, we just have to look deeper. If you look around and see the beauty God has created here on earth, it makes you see that being in His presence is much more wonderful and amazing in Heaven. You can be in His presence here on earth, it just is not the same. Don't lose sight that presence here is not the same as presence in Heaven, and if here is pretty amazing, then you can only imagine how much better it will be there.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #589 - Repeat

Repeat

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. 2 Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. 3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. Hebrews 10:1-3

Do you get bogged down in those routines and repeat things continually? Are those routines bringing you closer to God or further away from Him. Many times we get tired and worn down and know that we might be far from God, but we tell ourselves we will stop that negative behavior and make a change tomorrow. While we cannot repeat something over and over again to receive more grace from our Father in Heaven, we can repeat sin over and over again and distance ourselves from Him. We need to focus on those routines that are going to bring us closer to Him and not distance ourselves. Prayer, scripture study and a regular relationship will bring those things forward.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #588 - Clear

Clear

15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Philippians 3:15-16

Have you ever spent time looking through a window to see what is going on in the world, or are you too busy to see things. Windows can be very interesting. Some of them have blinds or shades that block the light, and others have curtains that depending on how thick they are can let in some light. But when you have an unblocked window, is it hazy with that morning dew or is it clear so that you make out everything that you see. God is very clear with His recommended path, but do we block Him with blinds, curtains or dew? God can be seen in everything around us, but there are too many times that we block Him and don't allow His light to shine through. God is very clear with many things, so if we spend time blocking Him we aren't going to see Him clearly.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #587 - Suitable

Suitable

9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. Hebrews 2:9-11

Do you sometimes find that there are things not suitable for you? Maybe it is a movie, song or TV show, or maybe even a some sort of drink or food. Maybe it is an individual who is not suitable to hang around because of how negative they always are with life. A lot of times these things that are not suitable for us can make us feel bad or negative as well. Look at Jesus who is entirely suitable for us and see how He became like us and suffered so we could be made whole again. We need to find things that are more fitting for our life, and not the things that the world tells us that we need. All we really need is that relationship with God and what He provides, and that relationship will spread to others around us which will make a suitable environment for us all.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #586 - Leader

Leader

6 So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”

7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:6-8

How come there are days when those of us in leadership want to be more of a follower? Do you have those moments where you want quit relying so much on people because they fail you or become so difficult that there is no way you can change them or their mind. I am the perfect example of someone in leadership that had a terrible day this week but was reminded of something by a friend. They reminded me of who I was in Jesus and that I did not need to lead all the time by myself but I need to be led by Christ. We need to remember that if God is our guide, whether we are leading or following, we will not fail.

Fantastic Friday #585 - Power

Power

18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Ephesians 1:18-21

Do you ever go through your day and wonder where your power lies? Maybe you think you have the power to overcome the challenges placed before you, or you feel you have the power to change evil in the world. The thought of an individual powering through on their own is where our world is struggling right now. There are people in positions of power who do things for their own glory and what they perceive as making them more powerful. We have to step back and realize where our power comes from, and where our power lies. It all is within our Father in Heaven, who as this scripture notes transfers this power to us as we need if we believe in Him. Imagine the world without God's Power and without the peace that we feel when we know He is with us helping us power through whatever difficulty we have. Keep moving forward knowing that your power lies in Him and in no one else.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #584 - Resist

Resist

6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:6-8

Resisting sin is not easy. Sin is prevalent among us daily around every corner that we turn and sin influencers are on every media device we have. We have become a generation that seeks the things quickly that supposedly make us feel better for that short period. That is where we are wrong in our thinking. We cannot be looking for those things that make us feel better for a short time, but those things that make us feel better for a much longer period of time. Those things typically include putting God at the center of our life, and coming near to Him as the scripture states. If we do these things, and resist the enemy's promptings to sin we can easily be shown favor by God. The resistance is a step we need to focus on daily.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #583 - Slump

Good Morning,

Slump

14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted within me.

15 My mouth is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
you lay me in the dust of death. Psalm 22:14-15

Do you sometimes feel like your spiritual life is out of joint, and everything around you is turning you into wax. Do you ever feel like when you are reaching out to God that your mouth is so dry that you can't speak the words that you want to our Father in Heaven? I feel these ways from time to time, and sometimes we are in a desert with our spiritual life. Most likely we are there for a number of reasons, but the key reason is our relationship with our Father. Just like your marriage, your friendships, your love for others, the only way they grow is if you put time into those relationships. The same thing occurs with God and our relationship with Him. If we are intentional about our relationship with Him, then we won't have our bones out of joint, or feel like we are turning to wax. We will be strong and courageous, and have a mouth that is flowing like a stream with thanks and love. So get out of that slump with God and do something about it instead of complaining about why you are struggling. Remember, those who seek change will change.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #582 - Answer

Answer

5 My steps have held to your paths;
my feet have not stumbled.
6 I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
7 Show me the wonders of your great love,
you who save by your right hand
those who take refuge in you from their foes. Psalm 17:5-7

The past few weeks, or should I say 2 months, have been particularly taxing on my family in situations that involve things we need answers on from our Father in Heaven. As we all know, answers do not come quickly or timely when we feel like we need these answers. The problem with us these days, we are too impatient and sometimes only ask God once or twice and then think that we deserve an answer. When we are faithful and regular with our prayers and requests, we will receive an answer. We all know that sometimes the answer is a clear No. At times, we don't think that we need to wait on God for our yes, so we give the answer to ourselves we want to hear when God has clearly not given an answer. Learn to be patient and wait on your answer. Don't forget to keep praying sincerely asking God for an answer that will come if you are quiet and keep the faith.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #581 - Stretch

Stretch

5 This is what God the Lord says—
the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out,
who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it,
who gives breath to its people,
and life to those who walk on it:
6 “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness;
I will take hold of your hand.
I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people
and a light for the Gentiles, Isaiah 42:5-6

What happens when you stretch your muscles? Can you feel the tightness loosen up? What happens when you don't stretch your muscles? The thing about stretching is that if you do it enough, your muscles can become stronger. God is strong and He created the Heavens and the Earth for us to enjoy and live within. Take a look at your life and see how far you are stretching your faith and personal growth with God and His teachings. The more you stretch your faith the stronger you will become in Him and be an example to others in how you live. Don't forget to stretch, because you don't want to come up lame when the enemy attacks.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #580 - Measure

Measure

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  Ephesians 4:11-13

How do you measure your faith in God? Do you measure it against what others seem to have and you don't basically relying on today's worldview? Or, do you measure it with what God has most recently done in your life but forget about the past tough times He has pulled you through. Maybe this is our problem, we are trying to compare our faith in God to something that cannot be measured by us. We have many things in our life where God has stepped down and intervened to provide us comfort, relief and love. God is using these moments to fill us up with His fullness and not for what we think He is doing. Our faith can build upon itself if we look at everything God has done, and how that has filled us into mature followers of Him. God is waiting for us to mature and attain the fullness of Him, we just need to remember to not measure where we are with our faith, but continue to build our faith in Him and His promises.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #579 - Lesson

Lesson

4 For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
5 The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love. Psalm 33:4-5

God teaches us lessons every single day and some of these lessons are learned over a long period of time. Exactly two weeks ago our car was stolen from our driveway, and the insurance company said that after 14 days the car would be considered totaled. As each day passed and there was no word from the police, I had come to the conclusion that our car was stripped and sold for parts or was being driven somewhere a far distance away. Just hours before we entered the 14th day the car was gone, Debbie received a call from an unknown caller. It was the police telling us they had found our car. The address they gave us was a park just 20 minutes from our house, and happened to be the home for Southside Little League where Gaven played in his District 7 tournament four years ago. The lesson of patience and God's faithfulness is evident, but what else we will learn is yet to be seen. I know that God is showing me something that will help me grow closer to Him, but sometimes I wish I could grow closer to Him without these trials. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #578 - Corrupt

Corrupt

9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority.

Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord. 2 Peter 2:9-11

Have you ever thought about what makes a corrupt individual? The world has influence on people to get them to do things that are ungodly and encourages them focus on things only for themselves. It is that selfish nature in people that gets them to ignore the mores of society and the righteous path God wants for all of us. This week we had our car stolen and it still has not been recovered. I have spent most of my week asking the simple question of why. Why would someone do this to us? I have found in prayer this week that it is not them. It is the evil in this world that pushes people to become corrupt and do things they shouldn't. It is evil that makes me bitter towards those individuals, and tries to get me to lash out against people who have allowed evil to sneak into their lives. Here's the kicker, God knows who they are and knows why they are corrupt. HIs judgment will come eventually and His plan will unfold for us as it always has done. We all need to have faith that God will address these things in His time and not ours. I have been taught a huge lesson this week in letting God do what He needs to do.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #577 - Kindness

Good Morning,

Kindness

22 Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. Romans 11:22-23

Do you ever stop and see the kindness of others? You might not see it because kindness can sometimes be overwhelmed by the negativity of this world. However if you stop and focus, it is pretty easy to see when you look for it because it shines such a big light when there is so much darkness. I experienced some unexpected kindness this week from someone who cares deeply for her own family, but she also cares deeply for others. That little light that shined on me today will be one that will live in me and now I hope that I can return kindness in the same fashion. Take a moment to shine kindness on someone this week and see what kind of light is produced.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #576 - Complete

Complete

11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 1 John 4:11-13

Do you ever find yourself not completely understanding a situation? You might react in a way is negative or completely out of character for you. Sometimes we don't understand a situation because you aren't looking further than what we think are the facts. Sometimes we make assumptions that are completely different than what is actually happening. How do we battle this? It is clear in this scripture, because it is as simple as loving one another for who we are and this love makes us complete with Christ in us. The Spirit guides and we should listen more to what the still small voice says than what noise the world throws us. Let God live in you and make yourself complete.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #575 - Features

Features

14 The earth takes shape like clay under a seal;
its features stand out like those of a garment. Job 38:14

Take a look at yourself in the mirror and then tell me what features you see in yourself. I have a goatee and in it there is some grey hair. I also see who when I smile, I have these little creases by my mouth. I also see blue eyes and a nose that I broke when I was 14. Now take a closer look in the mirror. Do you see the love in your eyes, the pain you might be suffering, the anxiety you might feel, the unknown steps you must take, or the reflection of Christ. Just like this scripture talks about features standing out of the earth when the clay is pressed over the seal, so are your features seen more clearly when you look more deeply. Remember that Christ lives in us, the hope that we have in His return is an impression that all who look at us should see. Let your features shine and let the pain and hurt be covered by a veil of love from Christ our Savior. A friend who passed away this week let his features stand out and so should you. Light your light shine. He did.

Fantastic Friday #574 - Learn

Learn

10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 8:10-11

Do you learn much? Do you know those people who never seem to learn anything from their mistakes? Maybe it is because they are pursuing the wrong things. Solomon talks about instruction in this scripture and how important it is compared to the finest silver and how that instruction leads to knowledge which is even more important than gold, and how that leads to wisdom which is more precious than rubies. Yes, I reiterated scripture, because sometimes we need to hear things more than once. Sometimes we need to Learn where we fall short. All of us fall short in wisdom, knowledge and listening to instruction, because many times we are pursuing things of this world. During this week away from work I have realized that God is trying to show me how important it is to learn from my children and what they can show me. Take a moment to learn this week, because it can only lead to knowledge and wisdom over time.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #573 - Stand

Stand

16 This is what the Lord says:

“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ Jeremiah 6:16

How many of you stand still for any period of time? When you stand still, what do you look at or think about? Many of you know what things in this world cause you not to stop and stand still, and it usually is because you are running from one place to another. If you listen to the Lord, does he tell you to run from here to there, and not slow down? No, he tells you things like are in this scripture. Stand and look. Stand up. Stand firm. Stand against. Why do you think God wants us to stand? Maybe because when we stand we are still and we can focus on what's ahead of us or things stay in focus. Think about when you walk somewhere fast or run somewhere, can those things stay in focus? Probably not, so take a moment to Stand and see the path God wants you to walk in.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #572 - Prepare

Prepare

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
2 Timothy 4:1-2

How do you prepare for the day? Do you start the night before or are you a morning last minute preparation individual? Everyone prepares for their day in different ways, and there are certain routines in our life that we find ourselves doing over and over again. Is one of those routines prayer? God wants us to be prepared to preach the word through our actions and opportunities, but if we don't prepare with prayer, how do you think that will work. I have friends who can be quite impatient with others and how they act, but I know that if they prayed for that patience daily that God would give it to them and would probably reveal a whole new side of them. The thing is, we all have to prepare and need to make sure that we do so in the right way, by humbly bowing before God and giving Him the praise He deserves. Prepare by praying, I know you will see a difference.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #571 - Living

Living

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,
1 Peter 1:3-4

Are you living, or are you living? There are really three types of living if you closely look at life. Many people these days are living in the world with the evil and debauchery that pulls them away from the true living that God wants for us. There are many who are living around the world, trying not to enter the evil that surrounds us, but they can slip into living lives not completely devoted to God. Then there are those who are Living for the Lord and all that he wants for us. It is amazing how much better our life is when we focus on Living for the Lord instead of all the distractions that we face. Jesus died for us, was resurrected for us and provided a way for us to live with Him again. What a joyful life we can lead knowing this.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #570 - Path

Path

9 The Lord detests the way of the wicked,
but he loves those who pursue righteousness.

10 Stern discipline awaits anyone who leaves the path;
the one who hates correction will die.
Proverbs 9-10

Walking across campus this week I was using a sidewalk that was clearly the path meant to walk on, had a specific direction and was smooth and comfortable. Looking off to my right as I walked on this sidewalk I noticed a path down this hill that had been developed, a supposed shortcut that had a couple of twists and turns, many rocks and a hole in the path. While this path looked like it was a shortcut, it seemed challenging and somewhat dangerous. I continued my walk on the straight sidewalk that did have a bump or two, but it ended up at the same place as the shortcut, however I had an easier time walking on the sidewalk because it was clear of debris. With God's path to righteousness, we know there is only one way and not a shortcut to get to Him. Why then do people wander off the straight path? Is it because they think there is an easier way, something that doesn't require as much effort? Or is it the enemy encouraging them to deviate from the path? We need to remember that while our path may not always be easy, we need to remain on that straight and narrow path, because the discipline may not come now, but it will eventually. Make good decisions and stay on the path that God provides.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #569 - Stop

Stop

26 Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother
is a child who brings shame and disgrace.

27 Stop listening to instruction, my son,
and you will stray from the words of knowledge.

28 A corrupt witness mocks at justice,
and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil. Proverbs 19:26-28

How many times do you find yourself saying the word "stop". Did your parents tell you to stop? Most times we were told to stop because we were doing something we shouldn't have been doing or they were just trying to keep you safe. Have you ever thought of what might happen when you stop listening to God? Most times when this happens we tend to find ourselves leaning to what the world wants us to do. If we stop and listen to God, He is always there, but we need to put all things out of our mind. When we focus on God and that still small voice, things seem to be more clear and the world can be blocked out, so stop and listen to God.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #568 - Comfort

Comfort

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit,if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2

This week I have seen people on social media and in person that have been happy and sad. I see at times people in pain and you wonder what gets them to this point. Why do we have discouragement in our life and what can pull us out of this rut that we can get buried in during these times. If you are truly united with Christ, there is a way to escape the frustration. We have to opportunity daily to pray to our Lord and Savior. What an amazing gift we have been given to tell our Heavenly Father what we need through His comfort and guidance. This is one of those aspects that I truly can't comprehend, but it is not our job to understand the ways of our Father, but it is up to us to turn to Him for this compassion. Just like the scripture says, there is comfort in his love through the Holy Spirit. I am in awe of this gift and will try and I need to remember to turn more often in prayer to Him.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #567 - Repentance

Repentance

8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9

Mistakes, shortcomings, and sins are all performed by individuals daily. It is not uncommon to have days where you let the enemy creep too far in and do something that does not honor God and the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. When we pray for repentance, we might feel that God is not listening or doesn't want to forgive us, but this is not the case. God wants His children to live a life that is close to Him and one that focuses on Him. If our repentance is not genuine, He is not going to forgive, but will wait in His time until we make the decision that we are truly humbled and repentant for our mistake, shortcoming or sin. Remember that God will forgive those who come to Him with a sincere feeling of repentance. God is there and always will be there.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #566 - Remind

Good Morning,

Remind

12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. 2 Peter 1:12-15

We all set reminders for ourselves and usually have to remember to remind ourselves of our reminders. I know that sounds strange, but how many of us can actually remember to do the things we need to do daily without a reminder. I know I can't, in fact I am not very good at remembering things at my age and I know it is all going to get worse. The same can be said about what Christ did for us, and the Gospel message. While I am sure many of us don't forget what He did, we certainly need reminders, kind of like how I did this week. I need to be reminded regularly of God's faithfulness, because times can be hard and we can easily get swallowed by the enemy and the false beliefs he puts in our head. How many of us think this occasionally, "the world is too big, has too many people, and God isn't going to be concerned about my little problem." This is the enemy and he is wrong. God cares about all of His children and is always there for us to guide us through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit and His Word reminds us of who we are, and now we just need to take the moment to listen to the right guide. I hope this reminds you to lean in and listen.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #565 - Take

Take

10 But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
11 My feet have closely followed his steps;
I have kept to his way without turning aside. Job 23:10-11

Do you recognize the choices you make while you are on a certain path? I wonder if many of us look at the path that is most pleasing, takes the least amount of work, and has the least amount of suffering involved. By taking these paths, we are happy, not physically taxed, and certainly less stressed. However, God doesn't always want us taking the path of least resistance. He wants us taking a path that we can learn from, one that we can rely upon Him for His strength and one that can be most rewarding to us. We must take the challenging path so we can learn what God wants to teach us, for without learning anything new our existence is a meaningless straight line of doing the same thing over and over again. Follow God on the path He wants you to travel and I guarantee that your rewards will be much more than you can think of now.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #564 - Astray

Astray

4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.  Isaiah 53:4-6

Have you ever thought about what going astray actually means? We are all guided by God to remain on a path of righteousness, but many times we take a turn here or there that takes us off the path. How far we stray off that path can be a challenge at times, because God wants on the straight and narrow path. God knows that we can easily stray because the enemy is influential here on Earth, but He also provides a way out for us under that burden of being tested. Just like the scripture says, we have all gone astray, but the plan God made for us with the sacrifice of His Son, also gives us a path to follow. When you find yourself going astray, remember the sacrifice that Christ made for all who believe.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #563 - Home

Home

5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 For we live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 2 Corinthians 5:5-9

What do you think of when you hear the word home? Is it a physical dwelling place that you reside in with four walls, a roof and doors? Is home where your heart is? Or, is home your family and friends and what makes up your life? If you look at your body as your home on earth, it is a dwelling place for the Spirit that lives within you. The spirit guides you and directs you and makes you whole. If you don't have the Spirit or let the Spirit guide you, things can feel empty inside and including being lonely if you ignore how the Spirit leads you. What do you do to take care of your home? Do you treat it well or let the world tell you what you should do? Your body has many parts, physical and mental, spiritual and what we take into our body affects us daily. Take a moment reflect on God leading you through your day with the Spirit, and if the Spirit guides you, shouldn't you take care of the home the Spirit resides in until you eventually go home?

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #562 - Remarkable

Remarkable

21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.” Luke 5:21-26

Have you seen anything remarkable this week? I bet if you take a moment to look back, you probably did see something that was miraculous, even if it was something small. Tonight I saw my son get hit by a line drive to the chest while he was pitching. It has to be one of the hardest hits I have ever seen and made me think how blessed we are that the ball wasn't hit a few inches to the right. God has a hand in everything, but many times we are too caught up in ourselves to realize how good God is and what He does for us. Every so often God does something remarkable in our lives to remind us of his power, whether it be healing or protection, God is always there. Take a moment and look at the remarkable things in your life that have happened today.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #561 - Exist

Exist

9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. Hebrews 2:9-11

Do you ever ask yourself why you exist? Do you think about the existence of evil in this world? Do you ever comprehend the existence of God when you see so many things transpiring in the world that just makes no sense? My answer to question number one sounds like this, I exist because God wants me to grow and mature in life. I exist because God wants me to impact others. Evil exists in many forms and at times it can test our faith in our Father-in-Heaven. The enemy wants us to leave God and all that He provides, but tell me how good is something that wants to pull you away from your Father. God allows the evil to exist and while it is horrible, He is the one who makes us perfect through His Grace. Jesus died and suffered so that we could be made clean through His sacrifice. If all of this doesn't show you the existence of God, His love for us, then pray about what you know moves your heart. If you already believe in God, this is a good reminder of who we are in Christ. Someone that calls us brothers and sisters. What an amazing God we have.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #560 - Lane

Lane

11 Teach me your way, Lord;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
for false witnesses rise up against me,
spouting malicious accusations.

13 I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:11-14

Have you ever thought while you are driving why we have lanes to drive in, especially when you see the people flying around you crossing this way and that way to get to their destination more quickly? My thought is that we have lanes to keep order. When we have order, there will be a smoother process for us to get to our destination. The same thought process applies to our path to our Lord. If we stay straight in our lane and not focus on the desire of the enemy, we can remain confident that God will keep us in our lane. We can't get antsy and expect the Lord to help us find the quickest way to our destination, but we can count on His goodness to help us find the straightest path to Him. So take a moment to realize that it is better to stay in your lane than be tempted to what appears to be a faster lane.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #559 - Shattered

Shattered

21 “His eyes are on the ways of mortals;
he sees their every step.
22 There is no deep shadow, no utter darkness,
where evildoers can hide.
23 God has no need to examine people further,
that they should come before him for judgment.
24 Without inquiry he shatters the mighty
and sets up others in their place.
25 Because he takes note of their deeds,
he overthrows them in the night and they are crushed. Job 34:23-25
Do you sometimes feel like everything is shattering around you? Do you think that you can't pick up the pieces and move on? There are people in this world that live through evil to gain what they want with no regard for others, and they typically don't care who it impacts or hurts. This week I saw where a police officer was killed in the line of duty. This officer had four children that I believe ranged in age from 22 down to just a few months old. When I see things like this happen, I don't think the incidents that I deal with in my life are really shattering my livelihood, but they are just a setback where I can easily pick the pieces up. While Job talks about the evil and how God crushes those, the other part of the scripture says while he shatters the mighty, he sets up others in their place. So, do you think God sets you in your place and where you are in your life? God allows these setbacks to occur, not to shatter us, but to remind us of who He is in our life. Don't feel shattered and unfix-able, but recognize that God can put you back together with his special glue.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #558 - Challenged

Challenged

12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

13 The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.”

14 Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. John 8:12-14

Do you sometimes feel challenged? Maybe it is something someone has said to you that is bothering you or maybe it is some decision someone has made that makes you wonder why they even consider you a friend. We all see challenges to overcome in our life, but it is how we overcome those challenges which is the true test. If we allow the challenge to eat away at us, it can be our worst enemy. That enemy can beat us up and down in an accusatory tone, and we can succumb to the challenge by being defeated. Or, we can be like Christ when the Pharisees challenged him, He was bold and strong with those who challenged Him and He didn't allow those words to defeat Him. We need to be strong and courageous, and know that we can be a light in this world. We should relish the challenges knowing that God can guide us if we allow Him to walk ahead of us. Don't succumb to the challengers, but overcome them with strength.

Have a great weekend.

Fantastic Friday #557 - Patience

Patience

11 A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. Proverbs 19:11

Before this holiday I was entirely impatient with several things going on in my life, and it was pulling on me and my health. Over the break I worked on a one-thousand piece puzzle. This gave a true test of patience to me, but it also tested what I have learned in my life. With so many colors and shapes, I struggled at times to see what I was trying to put together. When I would walk away to take a break and a deep breath, I could usually come back and find several pieces that fit within the puzzle. I was finding that I could rely on what I learned previously about color and shade and not so much the shape of the puzzle piece. This can be applied to our own lives, by not focusing so much on the minute details but to look at the overall picture. This focus can build patience with others and yourself. Turn to wisdom to build that patience.

Have a great weekend.
