Conscious
19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But
how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and
endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is
commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:19-21
Although this passage is from Peter talking about slaves submitting to
their masters, I see some very important correlations in our lives as I
read through this message. How many of us are conscious of God when we
are doing something that we shouldn't be doing? A lot of times we put
God at the far reaches of our mind and push the Holy Spirit's promptings
away from our head. Then, once we have done what we shouldn't have
done, Christ is put to the forefront of our mind and we are reminded how
he suffered for us. We need to be humble before God and before we do
something we shouldn't, we need to lay our thoughts and requests at His
feet. We need to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and
consider that our suffering should be for God and not for something we
have done. I encourage you to live a life that follows in God's steps,
be conscious of God and not try to create our own steps.
Have a great weekend.
