Drift
We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. Hebrews 2:1-4
If you have ever been
on a boat in the open water without an engine, have you ever paid
attention to how far you will drift away from the location where you
started? When you are in the water on a boat, you really can't control
where you are going unless you have a paddle or a motor, so without
these devices you could just continue to drift. The same thing can be
said about our spiritual life and paying attention to what God has said
regarding salvation and what we should be doing in our lives here on
earth. We also need to be paying attention to the Holy Spirit, because
God has given us this special gift to help keep us from drifting away.
The Holy Spirit is like our paddle or motor that helps right the ship
from drifting further and further away from our Father in Heaven. We
just need to remember that each time we take our boat out that we all
have the necessary paddles to stay on course.
Have a great weekend.
