Whole Story
4 Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: 5 “I
was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw
something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four
corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’
8 “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’
9 “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ 10 This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again. Acts 11:4-10
Do
you sometimes only listen to part of something or read small piece of
something? When you only receive bits and pieces to something, it can
be very hard to follow or understand. I know that sometimes in my life I
get information that is not complete so I don't get a true picture of
the whole story. I also know that I make mistakes and don't listen like
I should or pay attention to the people I love most. This has a very
serious negative consequence and one that I must overcome, however I
cannot do it on my own. I stopped Peter's story in verse 10 above.
Didn't it feel incomplete and don't you feel like you wanted more? God
wants us and has given us a whole story that provides a way for us to be
back with him. It is up to us to finish the story He has already
written for us and allow us to be changed by him. We must remember we
need the whole story and not part of it. Now, go back and read the whole
story Peter is telling in Acts 11 and I guarantee you will see where
you fit into this story.
Have a great weekend.
