Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. Psalm 1:1-2
What purpose does mocking serve? When someone mocks another there is some deep-seeded contempt in that person's heart that causes them to ridicule someone else. I am all for having good friends gently razz each other, but when does it become mocking? I believe it all has to do with the heart of the person and the intent. The world is full of people in high positions and influence who mock people relentlessly. All that action does is highlight a person's negative heart but it also shows people that it is ok to do something like this. I believe the more we see people unabashedly mocking or treating someone with significant ridicule, it begins to deteriorate our society. The enemy likes to see people with contempt in their heart because that contempt turns people's heart away from the Lord. Take a moment and set aside the mocking nature of our personality and see how loving those around us makes people feel. Maybe meditate on this scripture, it is very clear that God does not delight in mockers.
Have a great weekend.
Matt
