Give Up
8 Whoever sows to please their flesh,
from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the
Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:8-10
Have you said to yourself this week, I give up? Have you ever
thought about what the phrase give up actually means? It means to
concede or relinquish and could even be seen as giving in to a desire.
The word give, by itself, has a much different meaning. When you give,
you perform this action voluntarily for someone or some thing not asking
for anything in return. Looking at this phrase and word alone, which of
them do you really practice. Do you regularly concede to the enemy
because it is easier to please your flesh, or do you voluntarily
sacrifice yourself and time to please the Spirit. These two are very
different. One gives in and one doesn't. In one situation we are
focused inwardly and the other we are focused outwardly. The main
lesson we can take looking at these words should be that we should not
give up, but give ourselves to the Spirit and let Him be our guide. By
giving in to the Spirit, we give up our life that is full of desire and
self-centeredness for a life that is God-centered and full of service to
others.
Have a great weekend.
